Emerald Lake Trail Project
Friends of Yoho is working with Parks Canada to upgrade trails in the Emerald Lake area. The project began with the southeast side, the wet side, of the trail around the lake. The goal is to bring the trail to a standard that will withstand the high use it receives annually. In 2025, Parks Canada trail crew installed 954 feet (290 metres) of four-foot-wide boardwalk. This required moving more than 27,000 pounds of wood on a barge across the lake.
The goal is to reduce root exposure and improve slippery areas. Trail work will continue throughout the summer of 2026. The plan is to complete the main part of the southeast section of the trail in 2027. We are working with Parks Canada to assess future work.
Friends of Yoho has committed to making an annual financial contribution for a period of three years. Each year, we meet with Parks Canada to review what has been completed and to plan work for the upcoming season.

Historic Walking Tour of Field
Although Yoho National Park is best known for its scenic splendor, its history is rich with human drama and struggle. Summer visitors to Yoho National Park have the unique opportunity to join a local Field resident to explore firsthand the history of the town, the railway, and Yoho National Park. The walk tells the tales of railway workers, surveyors and scientists. It gives visitors an experience of a community that must adapt continually to its environment.Join us every
Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 pm.
We meet at the Field community centre, and the tour runs for about one hour. We work our way through the community making stops at heritage buildings and viewpoints. The tour is open to anyone who wants to attend. It’s free of charge but donations are gratefully accepted.

Golden Secondary School Scholarship
The Friends of Yoho Society values our neighbours and enjoys giving back to the community. Each year, we sponsor a scholarship fund for an aspiring post-secondary student from Golden in the amount of $1000.00. The applicants provide their interests and stories regarding their experiences of Yoho National Park, their focus for studies, and their priorities related to the natural world.
Based on our values, Friends of Yoho Society advocates for the environment, prioritizes education, and works to help improve experiences for visitors to Yoho National Park. These values underlie our review of applicants’ letters. We also consider their priorities and future career aspirations.
